AYURVEDIC DIAGNOSIS- A MUST FOR PERFECT CHIKITSA

Dear learned vaidyas,
Since I have joined this portal, i've come across wonderful case discussions, suggestions, clinical experiences by all you vaidyas and really enjoy them. One factor however is lacking most of the time in our case discussions or in our own clinic- Ayurvedic nidaan or diagnosis. We often come across cases where the patient has visited an allopath or has come with investigations and ultimately with a modern diagnosis. We(i'm including myself also) take up this diagnosis as a final one and relate the dosha, dhatu, malas in the patient on the basis of this and make an ayurvedic diagnosis parallel to the modern one. Same for the samprapti as well. This often keeps us away from important hetu, history of the patient which might totally change the diagnosis and treatment. We forget sukshma guna, mahabhootaas, dosha gati, agni, concepts of ajeerna, vegavrodha etc on which the nidaan rests.
Ayurvedic chikitsa needs an ayurvedic nidaan which ultimately means noting down detailed history of the patient right from the time when he or she was in garbha avastha. Then come the ahaar, vihaar and aachaar which again can be divided into number of sub parts which have been mentioned in the samhitas. Very often as the patient talks about his symptoms, we rush for a diagnosis, most of the time- framed by our own mind and not accoording to nidaan panchak. ......
